Group visits: Group visits are also called shared medical visits. These medical visits are voluntary and led by a healthcare professional. Participants of the group share similar medical conditions. This type of medical visit is longer than the traditional one-on-one visit and provides patients with an opportunity to expand their knowledge base of their health conditions and collaborate with other patients and health care professionals. The group visit provides health education, support, and an environment for relationship building. The focus is self-management, self-efficacy and empowerment. The purposes of group visits are to improve quality of care, the patient experience, and access to care. Group visits are different from support groups or educational classes in that they provide a medical evaluation, medication adjustment, and/or care coordination.
