Beacon Internal and Obesity Medicine - BIOMe, PC
Dr. Lori Smith has been serving patients through the practice of internal medicine for over 30 years, with 19 of those 30+ years in the Charlotte, Concord, and High Point, NC areas. She received her MD degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1994 and completed an internal medicine residency at The Christ Hospital in 1997. She is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) as well as a certified diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM). She is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), American College of Physicians (ACP), and the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA). Her philosophy in managing chronic diseases is to apply evidence-based medicine to address the root cause of the disease, with the intent of reversing, controlling, and preventing the complications of the disease process. She seeks to understand each patient’s health goals with respect to their lifestyle, culture, and personal preferences to provide a comprehensive, individualized care plan. Her patient-centered care approach fosters collaboration, openness, respect, and empowerment. Dr. Smith enjoys people, community, nature, travel, and learning about diverse cultures. She loves her family and friends, and looks for opportunities to create memorable experiences through sporting events, concerts, theater, or just simple acts like cook-outs or game nights at her home.
“I have been inspired by so many patients throughout my career. When provided with the tools and support they need to achieve their goals, I have been amazed at what can be accomplished. I believe that disease does not define the patient. Each patient is unique, with past experiences that shape their overall health, lifestyle, culture, and beliefs. Every personalized plan of care is a “recipe” to successfully manage the whole person. Every recipe has a secret ingredient, discovered in a patient-centered approach to care, and defines the “art of medicine”. BIOMe is my practice, as well as a concept, created to respond to the healthcare needs of our community. My goal is to deliver holistic, high-quality care and to respond to the obstacles that patients face every day – access, choice, tools, support, and cost. My hope is to also be an inspiration for other primary care physicians to find creative ways to deliver care to our community.
